Bolivia Trip - What We'll Be Doing While There

In the months leading up to our trip, I was often asked what Liz and I will be doing on our trip. It wasn't until a couple weeks ago that our team got our actual plan of activities that we will be involved in while in Bolivia in conjunction with Food for the Hungry. Needless to say, it was quite exciting to find out as the anticipation grew over the weeks prior to receiving it. It turns out that our schedule will be quite packed as every hour we are there will be accounted for. Of course on trips like this the word "flexible" is very important as I'm sure some of this will change over the course of our time there. Liz and I plan to roll with the changes as they come. With that all said, I wanted to give you a list of some of the activities that we'll be doing while in Bolivia:

Leave on Saturday July 16th - Arrive in the morning of Sunday July 17th

Discipling Children - I will have the priviledge of talking to a bunch of families (don't know how many exactly) about God's command to disciple our children. I'm very excited about this opportunity to talk about this subject but would ask for to pray that I would get some good sleep while on the plane there (we get to Bolivia around 6am). I will be giving this talk on Sunday afternoon.

Home Visits - Our team will be making multiple home visits to families involved with Food for the Hungry to encourage and minister to them.

Winter Vacation School Visit - The students in school there are on their winter break. For those students not doing well in their studies, they participate in Winter Vacation School. We will encourage these children as well as provide school supplies to those in need. We will give testimonies of God's saving work in our lives and also teach on a Christian Worldview.

Sex Education for Teens - Our team will be dividing into two groups to teach teenagers sex education. We will focus on the biblical view of premarital sex (the body as a temple), the consequences of pornography/sexual practice among adolescents, and call the teens to make a commitment to abstain from sex until married (covenant holiness).

Build a Speed Bump - We will build a speed bump to help prevent accidents in an area of the community. We're going to take some super glue and put it on our team leader's back and have him lay down in the street. Just kidding Matt! Now, where did I put that super glue...

Work with Churches - On different days we will work with two different churches. This will involve preaching, testimonies, and singing.

Nutrition Fair - The team will participate in this to promote the preparation of nutritious foods and the use of local products.

Sewing Project - Our team will visit the sewing project in which women of the community are learning to sew in order help provide for their families. We will be sharing the gospel and giving testimonies of Jesus' work in our lives.

Encourage FH Staff - Food for the Hungry has several staff in Bolivia. We will work to share our experiences and hear theirs in an effort to encourage them in their work.

Handwashing Clinic - Our team will give a clinic on proper handwashing techniques. We will do skits to help explain what germs are and the importance so washing your hands properly as well as frequently to prevent sickness.

Youth Dance - Our team will take part in a large youth dance. This will be an evangelistic event with food, singing, a sermon by Marv P. in which the gospel will be shared. Many of the youth there are involved in gangs, drugs and delinquency -- they desperately need Jesus.

Please pray for our team and all these events we will be involved in.

We live in the midst of two kingdoms. Kingdom of Flesh and a Kingdom of Spirit. As believers living for eternity, we put away the temporal desires of this world. God promises to meet our needs that we should not be anxious for them as we seek to enter into The Life. The Life being to live according to Spirit.

I appreciate your perspective on discipline here.:)
